Gamedaily Biz hat geschrieben:Uwe Boll, one of the favorite targets of movie going gamers, has been sued by the New York Post. Bolls tells GameDaily BIZ that the newspaper is trying to scare theater owners out of showing the movie Postal (based on the video game). He says his movie makes an "important political point."
The New York Post has sued controversial movie director Uwe Boll over his upcoming, October 12 Postal movie, as well as the U.S. distributor of the film, Freestyle Releasing. The Post has taken issue with Boll's movie Web site, The New York Postal, as well as the film itself, which Boll said no one from the paper has even seen.
"The New York Post has included Freestyle Releasing in the suit only because it gives them a U.S. address," said Boll. "I expect the judge to throw that part of the suit out, because Freestyle has nothing to do with the Web site or the marketing of Postal. They just book the theaters. If they want to sue me, they need to serve me in Germany."
Boll said the movie will open nationwide on October 12 in 500 to 1,000 screens, as planned. He said the New York Post is trying to scare theater owners out of showing the movie.
"They don't want this movie to come out," said Boll. "The MPAA understood the parody aspect of this film and we received an R rating. If they didn't get the satire in this movie, we would have likely received an NC-17."
While the short opening sequence that involves the 9/11 hijackers crashing into the World Trade Center will remain in the film, Boll has cut six minutes from the movie, including a brief television news report in the background of one scene that mentioned an upcoming story involving World Trade Center victims deserving what they got. Boll said this was not funny and it has been removed from the final cut.
Boll said he was actually laughing at the lawsuit because there's a picture of the Postal movie's satire site and the real New York Post site side-by-side and the headlines in the real paper are just as outrageous as the ones Boll's team came up with to parody.
"Parody is allowed in the U.S., just watch Mad TV or Comedy Central," said Boll. "The fact that a newspaper is trying to ban the release of a movie is ridiculous. If nothing else, this lawsuit shows that my movie makes an important political point that we can piss off the New York Post."
Boll said Comedy Central has recently approached him and they would like a South Park segment to play in the TV in the background of one of Postal's scenes.
"Comedy Central is very interested in helping us promote this movie," said Boll. "We're trying to get South Park into the movie and we'll also be promoting the film on the network and during South Park episodes."
Boll said he recently screened Postal in Orange County and the audience reaction was either extremely positive or terrible. He said those that liked the movie marked it extremely high and others hated it.
"If everyone laughed at this movie I would fail," said Boll. "I wanted to go over the edge with this movie. I want people to question what's allowed in movies today. Some people really get the parody, others don't."
Postal, which is based on the game franchise by developer Running with Scissors, stars Dave Foley, Zack Ward, Michael Pare and Boll, who plays himself. The film was recently promoted at Comic-Con and has been screened at the Fangoria Film Festival in New York and at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.

UB: And whatever I say, you have to print it how it is, and correct the spelling.
WN: And correct the spelling? Yeah. Well, there's no spelling on the phone. So, it's okay.
Der Kommentar ist einfach nur geilAs an Englishman who has actually BEEN to Germany I can attest that Germans have a good sense of humour and can be extremely witty. I'm therefore guessing that Uwe Boll is secretly from Austria.
