The skin color of the Edison family

Well, this is a question we have discussed in the Maniac Mansion Mania forums FOR YEARS: Why do have the members of the Edison family a blue skin tone?

We wanted them to be odd and cyan was one of the few colors (C64 Palette!) that looked OK. They sort of looks dead or creepy.
