On July 26, the official IndianaJones.com received a new design with as center image a large wooden crate that bears the text "Property of Dr. Jones - 9906573".
Since that day, fans have been talking about the number 9906573 and its possible meaning as it "looks very much like" the serial number on the crate in which the Ark is placed at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Fellow Indyfans saw a message from Lucasfilm in this number: "the Ark of the Covenant will make a return in Indiana Jones 4."
But in that case, isn't the number 9906573 wrong? As the number that appears on the crate at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark is 9906753. The 7 and 5 are switched...
What intrigued and confused visitors even more are two mysterious websites; 9906573.com and 9906753.com. Both sites appeared online only days after the release of the new IndianaJones.com. Are these two sites created by Lucasfilm as part of an online marketing campaign?
9906573.com initially contained the release date of Indy 4 with a link to a wikipedia page of the Ark of the Covenant. Later this link got replaced by a reference to a bible text. And now it appears completely empty.
9906753.com shows a close-up image of that number on a crate with a link to the official Indy 4 site and a quote from Raiders: "That thing represents everything we got into archaeology for in the first place"
Well, I've received word from Lucasfilm that they have nothing to do with these two websites.
And about the number on the Indiana Jones 4 teaser poster & website; Lucasfilm says 9906573 is not meant to reflect the Ark of the Covenant at all. It is just another catalog number like the one seen on the crate containing the Ark in Raiders.

And when they are talking, they are talking pretty cryptically and with strict non-disclosure terms attached. There's no other way to put it: it sucks.
But I can read between the lines, and I can tell certain things for myself, and I can make the odd educated guess and... sometimes, I can get lucky and hear something nobody knows I heard though it's typically about white goods or some such trivia.
But, honestly, compared to the sources Chud have, say, I've got nothing. Zilch. Nada.
Which makes it all the more amazing to me that I have the little crumb I'm about to offer you.
John Hurt has been playing coy about his role in the film. I think I know why. Now, it seems that Hurt is playing Abner Ravenwood, the father of Karen Allen's character - not as otherwise rumoured, Albert Einstein.
Was all of this Abner Ravenwood action in the script just a few months ago? Doesn't look like it. So, what happened? Where did he get such a decent part from?
As far as I can tell from the silly grins, non committal comments and constant hushing, Abner Ravenwood has been given all of the material originally intended for Henry Jones Sr. I'm not sure if he even existed before the contingency was cooked up to ensure the film would survive a Connery refusal.
John Hurt is, quite literally, the daddy now.
I'm going to keep asking questions, and see what else I can dig up. One of you will break... won't you? Please?

HILO, Hawaii — He may be 65, but Harrison Ford still fits into Indiana Jones’ tight trousers.
Many fans are curious to see if, 18 years after Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ford can live up to the physical rigors of the globe-trotting archaeologist in the long-awaited fourth installment of the epic series. The actor’s 65th birthday was July 13.
Producers of the adventure, currently being filmed on Hawaii’s Big Island, say there’s no need to worry. Ford is as fit as ever.
“I have to say, he looks amazing,” said Kathleen Kennedy, the film’s co-executive producer, along with George Lucas. “He looks fantastic in the outfit.”
Actually, Ford knew the hat would still fit but wondered if he could still squeeze into the pants. He did.
The action star, who first introduced the fedora-wearing, bullwhip-cracking Indiana Jones in the 1981 classic Raiders of the Lost Ark, is actually doing many of his own stunts in the latest film.
“He’s doing them, he just has a few more ice packs and a few more massages,” Kennedy said.
“And a lot of Celebrex,” producer Frank Marshall added.
The movie just completed the first of three weeks of filming in Hawaii, after spending a week each in New Mexico and Connecticut. The lush areas surrounding Hilo are filling in as a South American rain forest.
Lucas and director Steven Spielberg have not released the title of the film, scheduled for release May 22, 2008.
The filming has created a buzz on this normally sleepy island, known for macadamia nuts and premium Kona coffee. It’s the most action since nearby Kilauea volcano rumbled to life in 1983.
The film’s biggest action sequences are being filmed in Hawaii. Marshall compared one scene to the thrilling, white-knuckled truck chase in the desert in Raiders. “It’s that level,” he said.
Hawaii will be featured in about 20 percent of the film. About half will be from sets in Los Angeles. The Aloha State was also the backdrop for portions of Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Ford, Lucas, Spielberg, Kennedy and Marshall all worked together on the first three films, so this latest is a homecoming of sorts.
“We’re having a great time. It’s so much fun being together,” said Marshall, who has produced more than 50 films, including Poltergeist, Gremlins, The Goonies, The Color Purple, the Back to the Future trilogy, The Sixth Sense and the Bourne trilogy. “Nobody’s worried about their careers any more,” he said.
The latest Indy adventure is set in the 1950s and, in addition to Ford, stars Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Ray Winstone and Jim Broadbent. One popular character not in the lineup is Sean Connery, who played Indy’s father.
“We would’ve loved to have Sean do a cameo-type part in this, but he’s very much enjoying retirement,” Kennedy said.
She promised that movie fans, who have patiently waited since the 1989 Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, would get the same level of excitement as in the previous three films.
“The cleverness, the humor and the tone of Indiana Jones is very much alive and well in this movie,” Kennedy said.
The producers are being very tightlipped about the movie, and the remote sets are well guarded, leading to rampant rumors on blogs and chat sites.
It took some time to get to the fourth film, partly because of the schedules of Spielberg, Lucas and Ford. Plus, they knew they had to deliver another hit.
“The bar was pretty high,” Kennedy said.
iesb.net hat geschrieben: With all the Indiana Jones news flying around we were feeling a little left out so we decided to share some news that has come across our desk. Spoiler Warning!
First, let’s confirm some details that Crud.com and other sites have posted.
Contacting various sources from different levels of access to this film we can confirm most of the recent news that has hit the web.
The news that Karen Allen would be back as Marion Ravenwood is accurate and truth be told, a few online sites had been sitting on this information for close to a month, no real shocker.
Shia Lebeouf is a teenage motorcycle riding greaser, true.
Shia LeBeouf is the son of Marion Ravenwood and Indiana Jones, true.
Indy doesn’t find out about being a daddy until after he and Shia have been teamed up for a while and during a pivotal scene, true.
Movie takes place in the 50’s, true.
We will see Area 51 and Russian Agents, true.
South American Pyramids/Temples, true.
Crystal Skulls, true (13 skulls to be exact)
The current script is a hybrid of scripts including Frank Darabont’s version, true.
The title of the film is Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, maybe, it sure is the working title but we have been told the real title may involve something about the 13 crystal skulls.
One major question remains, who’s the villain? Let’s take a look at the villains from the past Indiana Jones films before we blow our load. Spoilers Ahead!
Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark we had Dr. Rene Belloq and those pesky Nazis.
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom we had Mola Ram and his followers.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade we had Walter Donovan and, again, Nazis.
So who will be a villain in Indy IV? Well kiddies, while most people have been assuming that Cate Blanchett will be Indy’s love interest since the announcement of her addition to the cast, several of our sources have revealed that she will actually be the villain in cahoots with the Ruskies.
Can these details change? We have been told that all major story beats have been locked and only minor changes can be made at this time.
I would stay close to the web during the next upcoming week as I have a feeling that more of Indy’s secrets will be revealed.
No time for love for Dr. Jones this time around! Well at least not with Cate Blanchett.
Stay tuned to the IESB as we bring you the latest news.

Away from Australia, (Cate) Blanchett, who is also putting her name and face to Japanese skincare range SK-II, is in serious "action-hero'' mode, playing a Russian villain in the fourth instalment of Indiana Jones, shooting in the US with director Steven Spielberg.
"I grew up watching all the preceding movies, so now to be in one will be quite strange,'' she says.
"When I got the call from Spielberg, I just couldn't pass it up. Harrison (Ford) is certainly the hero. And what is great about it is that I can go in for a few weeks and then come back to it later, as it is being filmed in stages.''
As with her approach to so many things in her life, Blanchett is charmingly down-to-earth about her beauty: "I certainly didn't grow up being the gorgeous girl in school, so you just deal with what you've got. And so then when it starts to fade, you don't feel a sense of loss and get into that cycle.''

MONTEREY — Karen Allen has lately been stealing off to an undisclosed location for secret stunts and a plot line that is being tightly guarded.
Although she can hardly say a word about the details, the actor and Monterey resident is "having a blast" in reviving the role of Marion Ravenwood, the love-and-adventure interest of Indiana Jones, kept alive aptly by Harrison Ford, for more than two decades.
The fourth installment of the "Indiana Jones" Hollywood series, a film by Steven Spielberg, is set for release in the spring of 2008, Allen said.
Allen, a veteran of 35 films, including "Animal House," "A Perfect Storm" and "Starman," now owns Karen Allen Fiber Arts, a

Great Barrington business that produces and sells cashmere knitwear and accessories. She keeps in the movie business as her life permits.
In July, she was on location — she can't say where — for three weeks. She will return — she can't say where — in two weeks for a longer stint, through October.
Meanwhile, she has been getting buffed up in the gym with daily workouts.
"You want to get in shape for all kinds of reasons: You want to look good, and it's physically demanding, and you need stamina and energy," said Allen, 55, who has practiced yoga for years. "I put my iPod on and boogie."
The fourth "Indiana Jones" movie will feature actors Shia LaBeouf, Cate Blanchett and John Hurt, to name a few.
Allen said she is consistently surprised at new generations of moviegoers who recognize her on the street as the "Animal House" co-star, or even as the actress in "Starman." Both have been revived by cable television and on DVD.
Asked about her new/old role as Marion Ravenwood (whose bar, "The Raven," burned down in a prior episode), she still can't comment much.
"It's an action-adventure role, because that's really the nature of these films. They are shot-out-of-a-cannon kinds of films — there is a lot going on from the moment it starts until the moment it ends," she said.
New "Indiana Jones" movies are likely to have a following because the series has had steady exposure over the years on television.
Allen said her fiber arts store, on Railroad Street in Great Barrington, will be in good hands while she is gone, and she has already filled orders for fall and winter.
Meanwhile, movie-fan bloggers are excited that Marion Ravenwood is back.
"Of all the Indy girls, she was my favorite," writes the author of http://www.theknightshift.blogspot.com. "Maybe we'll get to see that she and Indy got together after all ."
And a http://www.rottentomatoes.com blogger is pleased that a leading actress who is closer to Harrison Ford's age has been invited back.
Six Indiana Jones 4 Movie Titles Registered with the MPAA
Posted on Friday, August 10th, 2007 at 3:29 pm by: Peter Sciretta
One of our scoopers just sent us the latest Motion Pictures Association of America Title Registration Report. Lucasfilm, Ltd has filed for six different titles for Indiana Jones 4. The proposed titles include:
* Indiana Jones and the City of Gods
* Indiana Jones and the Destroyer of Worlds
* Indiana Jones and the Fourth Corner of the Earth
* Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
* Indiana Jones and the Lost City of Gold
* Indiana Jones and the Quest for the Covenant
City of Gods has been long rumored to be the working title of the production. It also seems to be the best candidate of the bunch Destroyer of Worlds, Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, and Fourth Corner of the Earth are way to corny for me. But hey, George Lucas was the same guy who named a movie Attack of the Clones and The Phantom Menace, so you never know.
It’s also worth noting that Paramount TV registered “Indiana Jones And The Temple Of Death” in 1983. I wonder what they were planning?
According to the MPAA title report, the titles listed will be clear for registrants’ use by the close of business day Aug 24, 2007 if no protests have been lodged against them. I’ve never seen a report like this before, and find the process interesting. For example: Columbia Pictures is protesting Disney’s John Carter Of Mars title on the basis of their upcoming release John Hancock. Most of the entries on the protested titles section are like this. Usually one word in the title is the same of another project. Makes me wonder if any of these people win these seemingly unfounded title protests.
